YBA250 Software Installation

Two methods are provided for installing the YBA250 software on your NetTek. The Serial Connection method allows installation using a standard RS-232 serial (NetTek Y350C and Y400) or USB serial (NetTek Y400 only) connection between a host PC and the NetTek. The Archive File method allows installation from a PC memory card installed in the NetTek.

Note that regardless of which platform is used when performing the upgrade, once it is completed the YBA250 module will function properly when used on either the Y350C or Y400 NetTek platform.

YBA250 Software Installation using a serial connection

  1. See the Serial Connection Considerations section for details on ensuring the serial link between the host workstation and NetTek Analyzer platform will function correctly.
  2. Start up the NetTek.
  3. Click here to start the YBA250 installation process using an RS232 serial or USB connection (or run YBA250Setup.exe in the Upgrade/Serial directory on this CD). Follow the on-screen instructions provided by the software installation wizard.
  4. When the module upgrade is complete, tap Restart Now on the NetTek to complete the installation.
  5. The YBA250 is now ready to use. To start the application double-click the YBA250 icon on the NetTek desktop, or select Start > Programs > NetTek > YBA250.
  6. After you start the application, the NetTek Analyzer Platform will copy the YBA250 software from the module into the platform and perform the installation. This process takes several minutes, but enables future power-ups to occur faster.
  7. Once the application is installed, it will launch. Verify that the version number for the software on the splash screen matches the version on the YBA250 CD-ROM.
  8. Place the label supplied with this kit on the bottom edge of your YBA250 module.

YBA250 Software Installation using an archive file

  1. Archive files are provided for performing the upgrade using either the Y350C or Y400 NetTek platform. The Upgrade\Archive\Y350C\YBA250Y_upgrade.arq file is that which is used to install the YBA250 software when performing the upgrade using a Y350C NetTek platform. The Upgrade\Archive\Y400\YBA250K_upgrade.arq file is that which is used to install the YBA250 software when performing the upgrade using a Y400 NetTek platform. Copy the correct archive file to a PC memory card.
  2. Install the PC memory card into the NetTek.
  3. Start up the NetTek.
  4. On the NetTek, select Start > Programs > Tektronix Utilities > Module Upgrade and follow the on-screen instructions on the NetTek.
  5. When the module upgrade is complete, tap Restart Now on the NetTek to complete the installation.
  6. The YBA250 is now ready to use. To start the application double-click the YBA250 icon on the NetTek desktop, or select Start > Programs > NetTek > YBA250.
  7. After you start the application, the NetTek Analyzer Platform will copy the YBA250 software from the module into the platform and perform the installation. This process takes several minutes, but enables future power-ups to occur faster.
  8. Once the application is installed, it will launch. Verify that the version number for the software on the splash screen matches the version on the YBA250 CD-ROM.
  9. Place the label supplied with this kit on the bottom edge of your YBA250 module.

Serial Connection Considerations

The software installation process requires an RS232 or USB serial connection between the NetTek Analyzer platform and the desktop PC. Note that if the desktop PC's RS232 or USB serial interface has already been configured to use Windows CE Services or Active Sync then it must first be disabled prior to starting the YBA250 software installation.

To disable serial connections in Windows CE Services perform the following steps:

  1. Right-click on the CE Services icon on the desktop PC system tray; then select Communications.
  2. In the Windows CE Services Properties dialog box, open the Communications tab.
  3. In the Device Connections via Serial Port field, deselect Enabled. (Enable mobile device connection must already be selected to make this selection).
  4. Select OK and close the dialog box.
To disable serial connections in Active Sync perform the following steps:
  1. Right-click on the Active Sync icon on the desktop PC system tray; then select Connection Settings.
  2. In the Connection Settings dialog box, deselect the Allow serial cable or infrared connection to this COM port and Allow USB connection with this desktop computer checkbox's.
  3. Select OK to close the dialog box.
Note that once the software installation process has been completed the Windows CE Services or Active Sync serial connection should be re-enabled.
